Health Services Information

Hello, my name is Cara Kerchner. For several years I worked as a school nurse in the Hamilton City School District. Thank you for welcoming me to Badin. Feel free to contact me with any concerns or to inform me of your student’s medications, injury, upcoming surgery, illness or emotional needs, etc. You can contact me by e-mail or phone. I am here Monday – Friday working closely and confidentially with Teachers, Administration and the Athletic Trainer on a need-to-know-basis. My goal is to keep them informed of students’ medical needs and act as a liaison between the student, family, teachers, counselors, administration, athletic trainer and medical offices.

This web page has a variety of information. Please read the information regarding when to keep a student home due to Illness, the Policy for Medications at School / Field Trips and State Mandated Immunization Requirements.

Medications: It is State Law and School Policy that students do not carry medications at school, except Inhalers, Epi-Pens, Seizure first aid and Diabetic supplies (these do require a Medication Permit to be on file in the School Clinic). I prefer to also keep a dose in the School Clinic so it can be found quickly in case of an emergency. There are many off campus outings throughout the school year and a few are overnight. Emergency medication will be sent with an adult for every event your student attends.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications can be administered at school with only parent signature. Prescription medications require a parent and physician signature. Both permits are available on this page. I am happy to fax permits to the physician after you fill out parent portion.

Vision and Hearing screenings: Freshman and Junior students will be screened. This usually takes place after we return from Christmas Break. Students referred to me by a teacher, or their parent will be screened at any time per request. If you would like your student to be screened earlier in the year, please contact me.

Strive to be Healthy,

Cara Kerchner BSN, RN, LSN
