Badin High set for a great week of music

Everybody can relate to great music at the Christmas holidays, and Badin High School will offer some tremendous musical cheer in a variety of ways in the upcoming week. Badin music teachers Ms. Jaki Howser and Mr. Bob Ross are ready to showcase numerous groups over several days.

“We’ve got a lot of talented musicians at Badin,” Ross said. “They work hard, they enjoy being involved in music, and they’re looking forward to having people see the fruits of their efforts. It should be a great week.”

  • On Sunday, Dec. 12, there will be a substantial piano recital (25 performers) at the Fitton Center in downtown Hamilton. It will begin at 4 p.m. and will also be livestreamed on the Badin Rocks YouTube page. Among the top performers, according to Howser, are junior Lily Oberson, an excellent pianist who is one of the regular musicians at Badin’s monthly all-school Mass; freshman Aydyn Yang-Smith; and senior Mark Holderbach, who will perform Billy Joel’s iconic song, “Piano Man.”
Howser herself, who performs in a rock band and also does the music at Christ’s Church in Mason, is also on the program with a number.
  • A Drum Showcase will be recorded and distributed the week of Dec. 13. It will be livestreamed Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m.
“This is the first year of a percussion class at Badin, and it has been a big hit,” Howser remarked. “We have some creative drummers – I have been especially impressed with sophomore Colin Smith and freshman Brady Cook. Brady brings a lot of enthusiasm to the class and Colin has really pushed himself to develop new skills. It should be fun.”
  • Badin’s annual Winter Concert will take place in the Pfirman Family Activity Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16. It will also be livestreamed on the Badin Rocks YouTube channel. Various classes will be highlighted, including the Jazz Band, Guitar, and the Badin Rocks Ensemble. In addition, there will be several “auditioned ensembles” involved.

“It should be an outstanding show,” Howser said. “For those who can’t attend, our tech team of juniors Brenden Bultman and Luke Jensen have done a great job preparing a quality livestream experience for the home audience. For those who can attend, it will be nice to be back live-and-in-person with our talented Badin musicians.”
