Student Handbook
Resource Center/Library
The resource center/library is open to students Monday through Friday . Collections of over 10,000 books, 20 current periodicals, reference sources such as encyclopedias, almanacs, maps, and indexes are available. There are fifteen computers with Internet access and subscriptions to three on-line periodical databases, and links to college/career information and educational sites. These computers are to be used for educational (school-related) purposes, not recreation (games) as stated in the school's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) that all students must sign before being allowed to use the computers. Students may not e-mail or use chat rooms. There is a charge for printing from the computers to defray the cost of ink cartridges. A library/media/information specialist will assist as needed.
Books and periodicals circulate for two-week intervals and may be renewed. Reference books and magazines do not circulate. A photocopier is available to allow students to make copies of these materials for ten cents per page.
Fines for most overdue items are charged at the rate of five cents per day per item up to $2 per item (excluding weekends and holidays). Students are responsible for the care of the resource center/library materials. Students are expected to pay for lost and/or damaged materials. The replacement cost will be assessed for a lost item. The charge for damaged materials will be determined according to the extent of damage but will not exceed the replacement cost. Demerits will be issued for books that are more than two weeks overdue at the rate of two demerits per week until the items are returned or paid for.
Students who wish to use the resource center/library during class periods should request a pass from their teacher. They must sign in and out on the log form at the circulation desk, as well as have their hall pass book signed. An atmosphere of quiet study is expected in the library throughout the day. All students are welcome at the Badin Albert Stuhlmueller Resource Center/ Library, and we hope this will be a helpful and well-used resource. Students interested in being assistants should see the librarian.
