Grades

Class Rank

Class rank is computed on a semester basis using the semester grade average and the weighting factor for each course. A new software system was implemented beginning in the 2006-2007 school year. This section is a guideline. To determine the ranking average, the grade points for each coarse are multiplied by the course weighting factor of the course. The products of all the courses considered for the semester are then added together and divided by the number of courses considered. The quotient is the ranking point average. Class ranks are cumulative; that is, each semester is added to the previous total. The Valedictorian must complete a full course load (7 classes) in grades 9-11 and complete all available AP and Honor courses at each grade level.

NOTES: 1) Only full credit subjects and semester courses of one-half unit are considered in calculating the class ranking average. 2) If a student repeats a course because of a failure, both grades are included in the class ranking average. 3) Only work completed at Badin is included in the class ranking average. 4) Class ranking averages are carried out to three decimal places. In case of a tie, the number of students involved in the tie are assigned the same rank.

Interim Reports

Midway through each quarter, interim reports are given to each student. Students are expected to take these home and review them with their parents. The purpose of this reporting is to keep parents informed and to elicit their cooperation in the efforts to motivate the student to a satisfactory level of achievement.

Exemption From Final Exams

A student needs an A average and the teacher's permission to be exempted from a second semester examination. Students will be informed of exemption by the last day of class.

Failures/Credit

In addition to having the correct number of points, a student must pass the fourth quarter (or second quarter of a semester course) or the final exam in order to receive credit for the course.

Grade Point Average

The overall grade point average for any period (quarter, semester, final) is determined by adding the quality points of that period for each course and dividing by the number of courses that period. Only full credit subjects and semester courses of one-half unit are considered. In determining honor roll, good student discount insurance, etc., the overall grade point average is not rounded as it is in arriving at the semester and final grades. If the qualification for an honor discount requires, for example, a "B" average, a student must have a 3.00 overall average for the period.

Incomplete Grades

Incomplete grades must be removed within two weeks after the end of the quarter or they will automatically become "F's" unless other arrangements are made with the course teacher.

Method of Calculation

The final grade in a course is determined by the four quarter grades and the two semester examination grades. In calculating the final grade, each quarter grade in order to maintain the ratio of 20% per quarter to 10%. The final grade is computed by adding the quality points for each quarter's grade and the semester examinations' grades and dividing the total by 10. The total points are divided by 10 to maintain the ratio of 80% for the four quarters' grades and 20% for the two semester examinations' grades.

Summer School/Evening School Courses

Summer school or evening school credits from other institutions will be accepted for make-up credit only. Summer school or evening school courses do not typically require the type of intellectual challenge and academic rigor demanded by course work offered at Badin during the regular school year.

Transcripts

The first three transcripts of credits will be issued to another institution free of charge. A $6.00 fee will be charged for each additional transcript. Any student who wants a transcript of credits sent to another school must have a parent sign a form authorizing a release of grades. This form is available in the guidance office. Students who are withdrawing from Badin must obtain a release form from the school office. Tuition must be current before a transcript will be released to another school.
