Student Handbook

Detention
Students will be given a one-hour detention to be served at the next scheduled detention day. Detentions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Students and parents will be given at least 24 hours notice of the detention. No excuses will be accepted for a student who misses a detention. A skipped detention will result in an additional detention being issued. If a student is absent the day of the detention, he/she will serve the next scheduled detention after he returns to school.

Saturday School
Students will serve a 4-hour Saturday school. There will be a charge of $30 for this day. Students will be assigned schoolwork and the atmosphere will be classroom-like. The date that Saturday school is served is non-negotiable. If a student skips Saturday school, an additional Saturday school will be assigned. If a student skips a second Saturday school he/she will serve a 3-day in-school suspension at a cost of 90$. Students who arrive late will be sent home, will attend the next scheduled Saturday school, and may be required to attend an additional Saturday school. Saturday school will be in session from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Students who have not paid the fee will not be allowed to attend.

Discipline Board
A student and his/her parents will be required to meet with the discipline board. This five-member board will consist of representatives of the faculty and administration. At this meeting a contract will be drawn up stipulating the conditions for the student's expected behavior. There may also be a referral to a school counselor or campus minister.

Restrictions
If a student has met with the discipline board, he/she will be on disciplinary probation for a period of six (6) weeks. If a student reaches 35 demerits while on probation, he/she will be suspended from all sports and extra-curricular activities (including field trips, dances, etc.) for a period of one week.

Suspension
When a student has accumulated a total of 30 demerits he/she will serve a 3-day in-school suspension. This “time” will be served away from the rest of the students, with a paid sub monitoring the student. A charge of $50 will be paid by the student to help defray the cost of the sub. Students may be required to serve an out-of-school suspension at the discretion of the administration. When a student has accumulated a total of 40 demerits, he/she will be required to serve a 3-day out-of-school suspension.

Expulsion
When a student incurs a third suspension form school during his/her career at Badin, that student is liable for expulsion.

Students will be expelled for any activity which causes scandal or which causes harm to students or staff. This may include, but is not limited to, selling or distributing drugs, carrying weapons, or participating in flagrant sexual acts on school property or at school events.
