Terry and Betty Malone Legacy
Terry Malone' 52 left a huge mark on the legacy of Hamilton
Catholic and Badin High School in so many ways; and his late
wife, Betty, has a special scholarship named after her -- so it only
makes sense that that they have been named the Hall of Fame
Legacy Family for 2008.
Terry Malone is the winningest head football coach in the
history of Ohio high school football at 360-177-8, including
the 1990 Division III state championship. During his years as
head coach from 1958 through 2003, eight Malone teams went
undefeated and 16 went to the playoffs. The Rams were state
runners-up in 1978 and 1980.
Terry did much more than that - as a history teacher, dean of
students, athletic director and interim principal over the years,
bigger than life in his impact at Badin. All the while, his wife Betty
was the "rock" in the background, taking care of the home front and
supporting the Rams in every way possible.
The Malone children and grandchildren have also made, and
continue to make, a substantial mark at Badin over the years:
Dave '73 and Cindy Aumentado Malone '73 - Dave coached
football at Badin and in Florida, where they now reside.
Bernie '76 and Paul Zimmerman '77 - Bernie is the principal
of Queen of Peace School and Paul is a social studies teacher at
Badin and former member of the football coaching staff. They live
in Hamilton and are the parents of one son who just graduated from
Badin.
Therese '78 and Bob Kugler '78 - Therese is an intervention
specialist at Badin and Queen of Peace, and Bob owns a local real
estate firm. They live in Hanover Township and are the parents of
three children, including one at Badin and one who is a Badin grad.
John '79 and Monica Roesch Malone '79 -- They live in
West Chester and are the parents of four grown children. John
quarterbacked Badin's first state runner-up football team in 1978.
Terry - Passed away in 1973 at the age of 10.
Betty Smith '80 - Mother of one child, lives in Hamilton.
Cathy Malone' 89 - Hamilton resident, junior high English
teacher, is currently writing a book about her father's coaching
career.
Kelly Malone '92 - Mother of one child, lives in Hamilton.
Andy Malone '96 - Former Badin quarterback, father of one
child, lives in Hamilton.
Steve Malone '98 - Lives in Hamilton, helps coach freshman
football at Badin.
Terry Malone always talks about all the families whose
children just kept bringing him success on the football field and in
the classroom, but Terry and Betty Malone and all of the Malone
children certainly made a huge impact of their own at Badin. Betty
passed away in 1997, but her husband Terry and the extended
family continue to keep the Malone legacy alive and well at Badin
High.
