Shannon Kuhl Nieman '99
When the Badin High School girls' soccer and basketball programs stormed into the headlines in the late 1990s, Shannon Kuhl was in the middle of the storm.
Shannon was a four-year starter on the soccer team and played a headline role - she led the team in scoring three times and was first team all-league three times. As a senior, she was all-Southwest Ohio and third team all-Ohio. She helped lead the Rams to state runner-up finishes in 1995, 1996 and 1997.
As a basketball player, Shannon came off the bench as a key defensive stopper during the state championship year of 1998, and was a starter on the regional runner-up her senior year.
As a senior, she captained both the soccer and basketball teams, earned numerous academic awards and was Badin's covaledictorian.
Shannon went on to be a major contributor to the success of the soccer program at the University of Dayton. She helped key the Flyers to the NCAA tournament during all four of her seasons. After missing the 2000 year with a medical red-shirt, she came back the following year to lead the Flyers in scoring as they reached the NCAA Sweet 16.
Shannon led theA-lO Conference with five game-winning goals in 2002, and once again led UD in scoring in 2003 while being named Most Valuable Player in theA-I0 Tournament. Throughout her college years she was again a classroom standout, and was named an Academic All-American in each of her final two seasons.
Today Shannon is married to fellow Badin grad Tim Nieman '99 and they are the parents of a one-year old, Reagan. She teaches at Queen of Peace School and helps her older sister, Stacey '96, coach the FOSC Fire girls' soccer team.
