Joe Cox '64
Joe Cox was an excellent two sport
athlete at Catholic High School,
helping spark winning teams in
basketball and football. He was the
sixth man on the basketball team as a
junior and averaged 19 points a game
as a senior.
A product of St. Mary's, he credits
his older brother, John '54, with
preparing him (and many others) for
the rigors of upper level athletics.
"John always taught us to have
fun and to work harder than your
competition. He taught many life
principles to us in preparing us for high school sports."
Cox received a full scholarship to play football at Morehead
State University, where he was one of only two freshmen to make
the traveling squad. He was a two-way starter for the next three
seasons, either at running back or wide receiver on offense, and as
an outside linebacker on defense. During his junior year, Morehead
won its first Ohio Valley Conference championship.
Cox was a volunteer coach for Badin's 1980 state runner-up
football team, and ultimately moved to Las Vegas in 1994. He
retired from the real estate business in 2004, and recently opened a
logo printing and embroidery business with his wife, Solange.
Cox has a daughter, Kelly McGinnis, in Hamilton and a son,
Kasey, in California. He enjoys playing tennis and watching sand
volleyball.
